In the latest review of the IUCN Red List, an inventory of conservation status’ and extinction risk of species across the world, the Green turtle was down-listed, moving from Endangered to Least Concern, a lower-risk category. Another conservation win is that Indian River County has seen record breaking Green turtle nesting numbers in 2025, surpassing the previous record, set in 2023, by over 500 nests.
While we are seeing positive impacts of conservation efforts, it’s important to remember that our sea turtles still face threats, including entanglement, boat strikes, habitat loss, bycatch, and climate change.
