We are so excited to announce that our Sea Turtle Rescue Van is back in business and is better than ever!
As the largest stranding response team for sick, injured, or dead sea turtles in IRC, it is critical for us to have a rescue van for adult sea turtles that need transport to rehab facilities. If you missed seeing our van around town, it’s because it recently received an upgrade. We added new cabinetry, storage, and tools to help facilitate quick and efficient rescue response.
Our van also serves a second purpose: acting as a mobile classroom! Our new high school program, “Sea Turtle E.R.”, will provide students with a mock sea turtle rescue experience, allowing them to step into our shoes for the day. The students will work through stranding and rescue scenarios based on real-life rescue experiences we’ve had in the field. They will also be immersed in volunteering while being exposed to career options in STEM that support conservation.
Last week, the amazing donors who made our mobile classroom possible stopped by to check out the new upgrades and experience a small taste of our new “Sea Turtle E.R.” program. We are so grateful for their support and continued encouragement as we work to fulfill our mission of advancing sea turtle survival by educating and connecting people to the environment.
