Sea turtles need to sleep too! Oftentimes, they will rest in the seagrass or on the hard bottom to regain energy.

Other Species Observed

Barbie observed some fish while swimming through the seagrass. Seagrass meadows are nursery habitats for a variety of marine species, including fish! Due to the dense seagrass, there are many places to hide and find food, which is why these are considered vital habitats.

Do you see the metal tag that Barbie has on her flipper? This is a flipper tag and researchers use them to track important information, such as growth rate, survival, and migration. If another organization finds Barbie again, they can report the tag number and most recent data, such as size, location, and health status, back to the FSU Marine Turtle Research Ecology and Conservation Group.
